Philosophy of Education

Through studying about education through the years, I believe that the goal for education is to prepare each child for the road ahead of them. I feel that every child needs to know the essentials of life because that is what is going to get them to the next step. I believe that the role of the teacher in the classroom is to be a friend and an important part of a child’s learning experience and be the one who teaches the child the facts that he will use and remember for the rest of his life. I desire for each child to feel comfortable around his teacher and not to be afraid because that will affect his learning. In obtaining my goal for education, I understand that parents and the community play an integral part in the school district. I believe that parents and the community need to be involved in the schools so that there are positive reinforcements outside of the classroom. I believe that the goal of education is to prepare each child for the road ahead of him. There are many different ways a teacher can instill the essentials of life in each child because, like Eriksson, teachers are essential in creating social environments that contribute to student growth. A teacher plays a large role in a child’s life, and it is the teacher who will prepare him for the next stage of development. As a prior student and future teacher, I realize that reading is one of the most important essentials of life a child can know. I will encourage each child to learn to read and have a passion for reading through showing my love and inspiration for reading by reading aloud daily in my classroom. I will not only read aloud daily, but in my classroom there will be DEAR time during the day for each child to have his own free choice of reading. This an excellent way he can discover things that he enjoys reading. I hope that through reading aloud, his passion and interest for reading will grow. I truly believe that the role of the teacher in a classroom is to be a friend and an important part of the child’s learning experience. There should be no reason why a child is afraid of his teacher. I feel that if a child becomes afraid of his teacher then the passion for learning will end. I have loved each and every one of my teachers, and each of them has instilled in me a sense of trust in them. I plan for a large part of my classroom atmosphere to be centered on friendship and trust in each other. My desire as the teacher is for my classroom to be a fun, learning atmosphere where each child feels like he is respected for who he is. One way to create a bond between each child is to integrate play into the classroom. I have learned that play is a very special part in a child’s learning, and it can help reinforce certain concepts such as his literacy understanding, mathematical concepts, and science appreciation in the classroom. It is the teachers responsibility to help the child develop these concepts through play. I believe that the parents and the community play a vital role in the classroom by being involved in the school district and the classroom. From being active in different clubs and activities in high school, I found one way the community can get involved is by involving the community newspaper. The newspaper can help the rest of the community become involved in the district by showing positive things that the school district and the surrounding schools are doing. One way this can be achieved is by inviting and letting the newspaper know when there are activities such as class parties, PTA programs, science fairs and field trips happening in the school. I feel that the parents can get involved by volunteering in the classrooms. An excellent way of getting parents involved is by having a special reading time where the parents can read to their child or a small group of children in the classroom. Also, I will have parents who bring snacks for the class on certain days. I also know that leaving an open- door- feel in my classroom, I will make parents feel like they can be involved in the classroom at anytime. I truly believe that parents can be a very positive influence in the classroom, and they can be a great help to the teacher. I truly believe that my philosophy of education is a very positive one. I desire to have a classroom that is a positive reward for everyone. I want all parents and the community to be involved in my classroom. I cannot wait to see my students eyes light up when they find a passion for learning in my classroom.
